How Am I Going to Use This?

How Am I Going to Use This?
I’m a very practical person. Anytime I take a class, attend
a conference, or go to a meeting, I ask myself, “How am I going to use this?”
I’m always looking for ways to be a better leader at work, so taking the needed
coursework in Educational Leadership for this Add-On program has so far been
very helpful and has given me some ideas about how I’m going to use the covered
material.
One of the takeaways from the first Law and Governance
course was two questions that I ask myself when faced with a decision about one
of our schools. “Can anyone be harmed by this situation?” and “Does this
situation have a direct impact on and potential to interrupt the learning
environment?” It seems like if those two questions can be answered clearly,
then whatever the decision regarding the situation is will have a sound place
to begin.
Summarizing Leaders Keys (LKES) in this current class was
very helpful as I use that for evaluations and reviews. Supervisees and I use the
Leader Assessment on Performance Standards (LAPS) to generate discussions about
work performance and also to outline areas of professional development. I also
use that to highlight my own need for professional development. We recently had
our yearly performance reviews and I highlighted fiscal/budget professional development
as a need based on LAPS Standard 4 Organizational Management. I also
highlighted under LAPS Standard 5 Human Resources Management providing
opportunities for professional growth and managing, supervising, and evaluating
staff.
